OSSIEC Establishes High-Level Verification Committee Ahead of LG Elections

As political parties conclude their primary elections, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has taken a significant step towards ensuring transparency in the forthcoming local government elections by establishing a high-level verification committee.

According to a statement released by Omoyemi Badru, Press Secretary to OSSIEC Chairman, the committee is tasked with the critical responsibility of verifying the credentials and documents submitted by nominated candidates.

Heading the committee is Alhaji Abdul-lateef Olayanju, an Osogbo-born mathematician who retired from the National Population Commission (NPC).

He will be joined by co-chair Mr. Kazeem Adeniyi Olatokun, a retired banker and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), hailing from Ede. Serving as the committee’s secretary is Mrs. Iyabo Olaniyi, a seasoned legal practitioner with over 15 years of experience, originally from Ikire.

The committee comprises notable members from various professional backgrounds, including Mr. Samson Abiola Amure, a retired local government staff from Ilesa; Mrs. Hanifat Adenike Adediran, a scientist from Ile-Ife; and Mrs. Olubisi Temitope Onifade, a graduate of English Language from Boluwaduro.

Other members include Mr. Tajudeen Badejoko, a retired Deputy State Auditor-General from Ikire; Mrs. Abolaji Atolagbe, a staff member of the Osun State Judiciary from Ila; Mr. Adebayo Wasiu, a retired Zonal Inspector of Education from Iwo; and Mrs. Rofiyat Bayonle Babatunde from Ikirun. Hamzat Wasiu Olajide from Ifon in Orolu Local Government also joins the committee.

Additionally, Abisola Ariwodola will represent the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) on the committee.

Representatives from the Osun Internal Revenue Service (OIRS) will also participate in this crucial process.

The committee is set to be inaugurated on a date that will be announced soon by the OSSIEC Chairman.
