The chairman of the Students’ Union Caretaker Committee, SU-CTC, Comrade Shamsudeen Umar of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) has bowed to pressure from students associations, tendered his resignation letter from the office on Friday, 26th May, 2023.
Recall that the chairman proposed that elections should be conducted for every student associations on campus, which receives rejection from majority of the associations and clubs.
His resignation was contained in a letter released from his office today addressed to the university’s Vice Chancellor through the Dean of Student Affairs. The letter was titled ‘voluntary resignation’.
The letter read thus: “With much respect and honor, I wish to notify you on the above subject, refers. Also, I want to thank the management for giving me the opportunity to serve in the Students’ Union. I believe that I have done my best in Justifying the confidence reposed on me with regard to the Students struggles.”
“Accordingly, I also like to seek forgiveness from the University community for any inconveniences I might have caused during the course of my service in the University from 2 June 2021 to 26 May, 2023, it included.
It concluded that, “God bless Usmanu Danfodiyo University. God bless Sokoto State. God bless Nigeria. Thank you. MS UMAR.”
As at the time of filing this report the reason for his resignation has not been confirmed. Messages and calls put to him were not attended to.
In a conversation with the Students’ Union general secretary, Comrade Abdulrahman Salisu Musa, he said that, “I was surprised when someone informed me about the letter because the chairman did not discuss it with the whole executive before taking the step.”
He added that he has been calling the chairman to speak with him on it but his number is switch off.
