The Ilobu community in Osun State has raised alarm over the alleged killing of Damilare Adesanya, a student of the Department of Computer Science, Wesland Polytechnic, Ilobu, by suspected hoodlums and warriors from the neighboring Ifon-Osun community.
In a statement signed by Pastor Olufemi Salako, the National President of the Ilobu-Asake Development Union, the community accused attackers allegedly acting on behalf of the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Ipadeola Akinyooye, of orchestrating the incident.
The tragic event reportedly occurred on Thursday afternoon at Oke-Ima, Ilobu. According to the statement, armed assailants stormed Ganga and Oke-Ima areas around 11 a.m., shooting indiscriminately. The deceased, Damilare Adesanya, was allegedly struck during the attack.
Pastor Salako stated, “After days of restraint and peaceful disposition by Ilobu to unwarranted attacks launched on us by the messengers of Olufon, the attackers on Thursday shot an unarmed student of the Polytechnic located at Oke-Ima, Ilobu.
“The armed-to-the-teeth hoodlums invaded Ganga and Oke-Ima areas, shooting at every living and non-living object. The student, whose identity was later confirmed as Damilare Adesanya, became one of their victims.”
The statement also emphasized the proximity of Oke-Ima, the scene of the attack, to the palace of the Olobu of Ilobu, highlighting the extent of the invasion.
“Notably, Oke-Ima is less than two kilometers from the palace of the Olobu of Ilobu. This community houses prominent figures, including the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Lasun Yusuff, showing that the invaders had penetrated deeply into Ilobu,” Salako added.
The Ilobu-Asake Development Union reiterated its call on the Osun State Government to summon Oba Peter Ipadeola Akinyooye for questioning regarding the repeated attacks, maiming, and killings allegedly carried out by his messengers.
The community appealed to security agencies and the state government to intervene urgently to prevent further loss of lives and property.
