A young entrepreneur and lounge owner in Osogbo, Osun State, Mr. Adeyemi Adekunle Ayomide, has accused an officer attached to the Osun State Police Command’s Anti-Robbery Squad of assaulting and detaining him unjustly after a misunderstanding with a customer, later identified as a senior police officer.
Adeyemi, who runs Chilax Zone Lounge and located at Onward Hospital Junction, Agunbelewo, Osogbo, recounted how he was beaten with cutlasses and sticks by operatives of the squad on October 31, 2025, leaving multiple marks on his body.
Speaking to Journalists on Thursday November 6, Adeyemi said the ordeal began after he intervened in what appeared to be an unnecessary gathering between a customer and his staff around 5:30 p.m.
“I went to tell my staff to return to their posts since it was a busy hour. I told the customer politely that if anything happened, he should talk to my manager.
The man got angry and asked if I knew who he was. I said no,” Adeyemi said
Minutes later, he said, several vehicles arrived at his lounge, one of which carried men wearing police jackets.
“They pointed at me and ordered me to sit on the floor. I told them I couldn’t do that in front of my staff and customers, that if they wanted to arrest me, they should take me to the station. They refused and started pushing me around,” he said.
Adeyemi said he was later forced into a car and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) before being transferred to the Anti-Robbery Squad.
“That was when I realised the same man I had spoken with at the lounge was actually a police officer, a 2IC (Second-in-Command) to the OC (Officer-in-Charge) of the Anti-Robbery Squad. He told me to remove my clothes and slippers and started beating me with a cutlass and a big stick. I kept asking what I did wrong, but he said nothing,” he narrated tearfully.
He alleged that the officers gave him 15 strokes of cutlass on his body before throwing him to the ground.
“They beat me like a criminal. Up till now, nobody has told me what my offense was. I only told him to speak with my manager. That was all,” he said.
Adeyemi explained that he was released only after the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) intervened following calls from friends and community members.
“The PPRO called the OC and ordered them to release me immediately. When I returned to the station on Monday as instructed, the same officer who beat me laughed and pretended like nothing happened,” he said.
However , Adeyemi called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Osun State Commissioner of Police to investigate the case and bring the officer involved to justice.
“I want justice. I want to know my offense. I did nothing wrong but was treated like an animal. I need the police authorities to investigate and tell me why I was beaten for doing nothing,” he pleaded.
Police Reacts, Promises Full Investigation
When contacted, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that the Command was aware of the incident and had already commenced a full-scale investigation into the alleged assault.
According to him, the matter was reported on the day it occurred, and steps have been taken to ensure justice is served.
“We are aware of the matter. In fact, I was called on the day of the incident, and by Monday, when I got to the office, I made an enquiry about it,” Ojelabi said.
“The authority has decided to carry out a full-scale investigation to determine what really happened. As we speak, the officer involved is under investigation and is feeling the weight of his actions. We will ensure the matter is properly handled.”
