Female speaks Initiative has urged the Nigerian populace to stop violence against women, stating that the female should be treated with care and any violence should be reported to the appropriate authority.
This was made known in a program convened on Saturday, September 24 by Clarion Olusegun sponsored by Female Speaks Initiative in collaboration with Female and More.
The female speaks initiative is a project birthed by Female and More social impact, initiated by the Youngstars Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization.
Female And More (FAM) is an online community designed to increase the Self-esteem, voice and leadership skills of young women in Africa so they can think big, pursue greatness and reach their fullest potentials in any endeavor of their choice.
The project aims at ending female-based violence which has eaten deep into the society.
Female Speaks project focuses at building and strengthening the female gender globally, with the aim of finding a lasting solution to the issue of Violence against Girls/Women, ranging from Rape, Girl Child Molestation and Abuse to Teenage Pregnancy and Marriage.
The program which started on September 4 with 20 days online activism and campaign, has enlightened people on the evils of violence against female-child and women, encouraging parents and the society to ensure women are free from torture, harassment, and assualt.
During her speech in the Program at Catholic church of the presentation hall, fatokun street off pipeline, Abule-Egba Lagos, on Saturday, Mrs Helen Oladele, a teen counsellor and international Parenting Advocate urged the female-children to always report any suspicious person to the authority in charge and also be careful of the male they relate with.
Oladele urged the government to help advocate against violence and assault against female-children, adding that the society can also contribute in stopping the violence and assault.
Present in the event were; Bunmi Orekoya, head of mediation Lagos state Domestic and sexual violence Agency; Deputy Director of Nursing University College Hospital, Ibadan, Mrs. Ponle Abiola; General Manager Radio Lagos/Eko FM, Mr Olanude Lawal and other females from different secondary schools.
In an interview with the convener, Clarion Olusegun, explained that she was thrilled seeing an opportunity to give back to the society.
She said, “I felt great, knowing that it is an opportunity for me to impact and give back to society. Observing these menaces in the country and violence against women and girls being one of the backwoods of our country it calls for immediate reduction I’d productivity and growth is desired”
“It is an avenue for me to achieve dreams and goals, as it is always my dream to impact and effective”
However, Clarion urged Nigerians to be watchful and shun violence against women in the society and also beseeched the security agencies to swing into action once any violence is reported, urging the government to also enlighten people on how to be self-defensive once there’s any violence.
