The Association of Veterinary Medicine Students (AVMS) Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) chapter, has organized an orientation programme for the 100-level and 200-level students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the New Veterinary Building hall.

The programme, which had Dr. A. Mahmuda (Deputy Dean, Preclinicals), Dr. A. M. Mayaki (Faculty Examination Officer) and Dr. M. S. Yahaya in attendance, lasted from 4:00pm through 6:00pm. The organizers welcomed the new students, introduced the veterinarian attire to them and encouraged them to work hard to attain excellence.

Dr. A. M. Mayaki used the faculty’s handbook to ground the students on their course registration for the session.

Dr. A. Mahmuda talked about administrative events, emphasizing the rules of the faculty and warning them to avoid any form of examination malpractice. He also advised them to be studious and wary of bad friends in order to succeed.

A new student of the faculty, Sidikat Ajoke Ahmed, expressed excitement over the programme, hoping more of it will be organized. She said that, “I really learned a lot from the programme, and it really served as an eyeopener on what it takes to be a career person in doctoring animals”.

She appreciated the organizers for acquainting her with courses to register for the 2022/2023 academic session.

Sodiq Salisu, a 200-level student, expressed delight over the programme.
“When you are thinking of giving up and you attend the programme, you will be motivated and encouraged,” he noted.

“Despite being in the 200 level, there is something that I didn’t know about the faculty that the programme shed light on,” He added.

The CareTaker Committee (CTC) Vice Chairperson of the AVMS, Peace Titi Gabi, a 500-level student, beamed over the turnout of her fresher and sophomore colleagues.

Gabi assured that the new students will get the faculty handbook when they come for registration or on their matriculation day. She noted the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine upholds the attendance principle and implored the fresh students to be punctual to classes.
