The Ede Elders Council (Egbe Igbimo Agbaagba Ilu Ede) has called for calm among residents and indigenes of Halleluyah Town, a suburb of Edeland, following an attack on the Ajeniju of Halleluyah Town, Oba Yusuf Jelili Olaiya, Ademola I.
The attack was allegedly carried out by individuals from Ido Osun, a neighboring town.
In a statement released on Monday by the Council’s President, Alhaji Sulaimon Ademola Adebayo, through its Director of Publicity, Chief Ayodele Adeyemo, the Council condemned the incident, describing it as a desecration of traditional institutions and culture. It urged residents to maintain peace while the Osun State government addresses the issue.
The Council commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for his swift intervention, including ordering a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. They also expressed gratitude to God for sparing the life of Oba Yusuf Jelili Olaiya during the incident.
Alhaji Adebayo called on law enforcement agencies to prevent a recurrence of such attacks by enhancing security along the roads connecting Ede, Ido Osun, and other neighboring communities.
The Council also praised His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, Laminisa I, Timi of Edeland, for his wisdom and maturity in managing the situation.
Reiterating the historical connection of Halleluyah Town and other communities like Olorunsogo to Edeland, the Council pointed to a subsisting Supreme Court judgment affirming their status as part of Edeland.
Residents of Halleluyah Town were urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with the government in its efforts to ensure justice and lasting peace in the area.
Oba Yusuf Jelili Olaiya, Ademola I, was crowned last year by Oba Dr. Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, Laminisa I, underscoring his legitimate status as a traditional ruler within Edeland.
