Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has described a former governor of the state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, as a patriotic democrat whose contributions to governance and democratic development remain significant at both state and national levels.
In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke praised Oyinlola during a birthday event held in his honour in Osogbo on Monday.
The governor, who was represented at the event by his Special Adviser, Hon. Kamarudeen Ajisafe, said the former governor’s role in promoting democratic values, peace, and reconciliation has continued to shape political discourse beyond his time in office.
Adeleke noted that Oyinlola has remained a respected voice in moments of political tension, often playing a stabilising role through dialogue and consensus-building.
“Locally and nationally, he remains a voice of stability and peaceful coexistence. In difficult times, he stands out as a voice of reason and reconciliation,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
The governor also acknowledged Oyinlola’s past contributions to Osun State’s development, describing him as an elder statesman whose experience and counsel continue to support efforts toward good governance.
Reflecting on their long-standing relationship, Adeleke said Oyinlola has earned his confidence as a genuine counsellor and supporter of democratic governance, adding that Osun State and Nigeria remain fortunate to benefit from his leadership experience.
The governor prayed for continued strength and good health for the former governor, wishing him more years of service to the nation.
