Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has distributed free health insurance cards to 10,000 people living with disabilities (PWDs) in the state. The governor also provided life-support gadgets and advanced medical aids designed to improve the quality of life for the beneficiaries.
The distributed items include manual and automated wheelchairs, crutches, walking sticks, talking watches, artificial limbs, hearing aids, ultraviolet umbrellas, creams and glasses for albinos, and other essential gadgets.
During the distribution event held in Osogbo on Tuesday, Adeleke announced that some PWDs would also undergo free surgical procedures as part of the initiative to address their health challenges.
“The provision of these medical aids and insurance cards is part of our commitment to making life more meaningful for people living with disabilities,” Governor Adeleke stated.
In his remarks, Dr. Rasaq Akindele, Executive Secretary of the Osun Health Insurance Agency (OSHIA), highlighted the administration’s achievements under Adeleke’s leadership.
“Governor Adeleke has facilitated the complete payment of 13 months of outstanding capitations, furnished and commissioned the OSHIA office complex, fully digitalized OSHIA operations, and inaugurated the agency’s governing board,” Akindele said.
He further noted other milestones, including the regular supply of drugs to partnering facilities, free distribution of multimillion-naira equipment to accredited government hospitals, and the enrollment of over 23,000 pensioners into the free OHIS programme with access to free medical and surgical care.
The initiative underscores Adeleke’s commitment to inclusive governance and improved healthcare services for Osun residents.
