The Osun State Government has announced the distribution of funds to pensioners as part of activities marking the two-year anniversary of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Government House in Osogbo on Friday, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, praised Adeleke’s leadership over the past two years, describing it as “transformational and impactful.” He emphasized that the anniversary events would celebrate the governor’s achievements while setting the stage for new developmental milestones.
Key Highlights of the Celebration
The activities, which began on Friday, include a health walk, a novelty football match between the executive and legislature, religious services, state awards presentations, and project commissioning across the state’s 30 local government areas.
“The second anniversary is not just a celebration but an opportunity to reflect on how far we have come under Governor Adeleke’s leadership,” Igbalaye said. “The governor has surpassed expectations in terms of service delivery, ensuring the completion of key projects and initiating new ones to benefit the people of Osun State.”
Among the projects to be commissioned are the Old Garage-Oke Fia Dual Carriageway by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Osogbo Ring Road by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. The Minister of Aviation and Works, David Umahi, will also perform the foundation-laying ceremony for a state airport project.
Pension Funds for Retirees
A significant part of the celebrations will focus on pensioners, as the government is set to disburse bond certificates to retirees under the contributory pension scheme. Igbalaye described the initiative as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to addressing the plight of senior citizens.
“Governor Adeleke has consistently shown that the welfare of our people, including pensioners who have served the state diligently, remains a top priority,” he said. “This is part of his broader agenda to deliver democratic dividends and ensure no one is left behind.”
During the ceremony, pensioners will also present an award to Governor Adeleke, acknowledging his efforts in addressing their needs and ensuring prompt payment of entitlements.
Focus on Development Amid Political Activities
The SSG further assured residents that the anniversary celebrations would not distract the governor from completing ongoing projects or initiating new ones.
“Despite the increase in political activities, Governor Adeleke remains committed to delivering on his promises,” Igbalaye said. “Osun State is on a path of transformation, and this administration is determined to see it through.”
Notable Guests and Events
The celebrations will feature several notable dignitaries, including former President Obasanjo, Governor Seyi Makinde, and other leaders who will inaugurate key projects and participate in major events.
Religious services, including a Jumaat prayer and a thanksgiving service at a church in Osogbo, are also part of the lineup, alongside a novelty football match symbolizing unity between the executive and legislative arms of government.
The state awards ceremony will honor individuals and organizations who have contributed significantly to Osun’s development, while a health walk will emphasize the government’s focus on promoting wellness among residents.
Foundation for Future Growth
Looking ahead, Igbalaye revealed that the administration plans to flag off additional projects during the anniversary, including infrastructure and social initiatives. He added that the celebrations would provide a platform for the government to share its vision for the remaining two years of Adeleke’s tenure.
“This anniversary is not just about looking back at our achievements but also about laying the foundation for even greater accomplishments in the years ahead,” Igbalaye concluded.
