The Osun State Chairman of ACCORD party, Pastor Victor Akande, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of planning to destabilise the party and disrupt peace in the state through an alleged illegal and parallel primary election.
In a rebuttal made available to journalists, Akande said the APC was sponsoring what he described as a “fraudulent process” under the name of ACCORD in a bid to sow confusion within the party and the state at large.
He alleged that the move was driven by what he termed the APC’s inability to match the political momentum and growing acceptance currently enjoyed by Governor Ademola Adeleke following his declaration and affiliation with ACCORD.
According to the party chairman, the APC is allegedly backing Mr. Segun Alex Ayodele Fanibe, whom he claimed is a card-carrying member of the APC, to pose as an ACCORD aspirant with the aim of creating internal crisis.
Akande stated that Fanibe had no affiliation with ACCORD, insisting that available records showed he left the party in 2018 and recently participated as a delegate in the APC governorship primary election.
“This alone renders any claim of affiliation with ACCORD null, void and of no effect,” he said.
The ACCORD chairman warned that any attempt to organise or parade a parallel primary election in the name of the party was illegal, provocative and capable of threatening public peace in Osun State.
He recalled that similar attempts had been made in the past, which, according to him, eventually failed, urging residents of the state to remain vigilant against what he described as deceptive political tactics.
Akande reaffirmed that ACCORD remained a law-abiding, democratic and peace-loving party, stressing that only primaries and processes recognised by the party’s national leadership were valid.
He also called on security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities to take note of the alleged plot, warning that Osun State had chosen peace, performance and stability over political unrest.
