The Students’ Union (SU) of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has expressed heartfelt gratitude to staff, students, and individuals following the safe release of Olowolagba Goodness, a 200-level Guidance and Counselling student, and her parents, who were abducted on December 22, 2024.
In a statement released on December 28, 2024, the SU announced the release of Goodness and her parents, expressing relief and appreciation for the collective efforts that made it possible.
“The Students’ Union under the leadership of Comrade Boladale Oyindamola (Mandela) is thrilled to inform all staff, students, and concerned individuals that Olowolagba Goodness and her parents have been safely released today after days of uncertainty. Their return is a result of the concerted efforts of individuals and authorities who worked tirelessly and in unity to secure their freedom,” the statement read.
This announcement follows the SU’s earlier appeal for donations to help secure the release of Goodness and her parents, as their abductors had demanded a ₦15 million ransom. In a prior statement issued on December 27, 2024, the union had called on the AAUA community and the general public to contribute generously.
“We understand that times are tough, but we must not turn a blind eye to the plight of our sister and friend, who may be enduring a traumatic experience,” the SU had stated during their fundraising efforts.
Now, following the successful resolution of the ordeal, the SU has expressed deep gratitude to everyone who supported the cause, including those who amplified the story on social media.
“We appreciate all students, staff, and bloggers who supported us with funds and helped spread the news across platforms. Your solidarity and generosity made this relief possible. Thank you, and God bless you,” the union concluded.
