Prof. Olugbenga Ige, the Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, reports that the institution’s management has begun expanding its postgraduate programs in accordance with global best practices.
Prof. Ige expressed this on Wednesday, June 8, 2023, while proclaiming to open a one-day studio, titled, “Repositioning AAUA Postgraduate School Towards Meeting 21st Century Difficulties.”
“We have emphasized the need for us to strengthen our postgraduate programmes at the level of the Senate,” the VC stated.
“We really must revitalize our postgraduate projects to get together with the global principles. The management will do everything in its power to ensure that the AAUA Postgraduate School excels.
“It is our craving to see that our alumni and those of different establishments find our postgraduate projects really intriguing, and we won’t leave any stone unturned to accomplish this.” He said.
He thanked Prof. Ganiyu Oboh, the guest speaker and lead paper presenter, for agreeing to share his wealth of experience with the university. He also urged the participants—principal officers, deans, directors, department heads, professors, and lecturers with a Ph.D. or higher—to incorporate the lessons of the workshop because the university is rushing to improve its postgraduate programs.
Prof. Oboh, who is from the Government College of Innovation, Akure, said that, for Postgraduate projects to be more virile in Nigeria, establishments should start to drift interdisciplinary projects with different foundations and examination fixates zeroing in on its areas of relative benefit.
Prof. Oboh said, “It is about time Nigerian colleges and particular exploration places began to team up with each other to run interdisciplinary postgraduate projects to such an extent that we will actually want to address the various issues common in our general public.”
He demanded that the administration of the university take steps to ensure that its graduate programs meet international standards, as well as to prioritize effective feedback mechanisms, effective ICT, strong mentorship, grants, support, and incentives for staff and students.
Different speakers at the workshop included, Prof. Olubayo Oluduro, who talked on, “Postgraduate Scholastic Guidelines”; Prof. Benson Igboin, who inspected, “Award Winning Exposition and Proposal Subjects”; Prof. Emmanuel Ogunbodede, who continued with, Procedures and Contents”; and Prof. Alaba Gbadamosi, whose presentation was titled “Maintaining Quality Assurance for the Prevention of Plagiarism and Other Harmful Practices.”
Prof. Benson Akinnawonu, Dean of Postgraduate School, stated earlier that the workshop was intended to enhance capacity building and mainstream quality assurance for all Postgraduate stakeholders involved in teaching, supervision, and administration.
Prof. Akinnawonu thanked the vice chancellor for approving the capacity building workshop and thanked the other speakers for agreeing to take on the role. He also thanked the Local Organizing Committee, which was led by Prof. Isaac Ololade, Dean of the Faculty of Science, for putting on a workshop that was appropriate.
