The Otuagasa Foundation has called on security agencies to investigate and arrest individuals allegedly involved in a sacrilegious act at the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove.
The call followed a viral video on social media showing some individuals dressed in white garments allegedly conducting prayers inside the sacred grove.
The foundation, in a statement signed on Saturday by its founder, Ogundeji Elebuibon, condemned the act, allegedly carried out by a Christian group, warning that such actions could trigger religious unrest if not urgently addressed.
Elebuibon called on the Christian Association of Nigeria to caution its members against desecrating spiritual sites such as the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove.
He urged security agencies, particularly the police, to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice in order to prevent a recurrence.
According to him, traditional worshippers have peacefully coexisted with other religions and have allowed people access to the grove for spiritual cleansing for decades, stressing that such tolerance should not be taken for granted.
He also called on traditional authorities, including the Ataoja of Osogbo and custodians of the grove, to ensure the sanctity of the sacred site is protected and preserved.
Elebuibon further alleged that the group involved reportedly gained access to the grove and recorded a video of themselves performing spiritual activities, which he described as provocative and capable of causing religious tension in Osogbo.
He noted that the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove is not only a religious symbol for traditional worshippers but also a cultural heritage site that has existed for centuries and should be protected from abuse and desecration.
