The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alerted security agencies over a planned protest by labour unions to branches of United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Osogbo, warning that the action could lead to a breakdown of law and order.
In a press statement dated March 21, 2026 and signed by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party alleged that the protest was being organised by the Osun State Joint Labour Movement under the leadership of labour union officials in the state.
The party said the protest was allegedly being coordinated under the directive of the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC) in the state.
According to the statement, the unions had allegedly instructed members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) across local governments in the state to mobilise workers to Osogbo for the protest scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
The APC alleged that part of the plan was to picket UBA branches in Osogbo and disrupt commercial activities, urging security agencies including the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to monitor the situation closely.
The party further alleged that the planned protest was connected to the ongoing dispute over the operation of local government accounts and signatories, which it said is currently the subject of court proceedings.
The statement read in part: “One does not need to be grounded in law to know that the planned picketing of the UBA by the Osun State Joint Labour Movement constitutes an act of contempt of court and interference with the judicial process as it risks exerting undue pressure on issues that are squarely within the purview of the judiciary for determination.”
The APC also alleged that the protest was politically motivated and linked to the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, although it did not provide evidence to support the claim.
“It is highly surprising that a sitting governor will be inciting and condoning conducts likely to cause breach of peace just for political lies,” the statement said.
The party urged labour leaders in the state to reconsider the planned protest and avoid actions that could lead to unrest.
“We are cautioning the Osun State Joint Labour Movement to desist from allowing itself to be used as agents of destruction and breach of the peace and breakdown of law and order,” the statement added.
The APC also called on parents and guardians to warn their children and wards against participating in any protest that could lead to violence or disruption of public peace.
The party urged security agencies to remain on alert and take necessary steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order in the state.
