The Osun State Government has announced plans to commence construction on the 55.6-kilometre Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan road, with the project already divided into sections and awarded to contractors.
The Director of Highways in the state, Moruf Ojebode, disclosed this during an inspection of the ongoing 3.6-kilometre Odo-Ori–Oja-Oba–Post Office dual carriageway project in Iwo.
Ojebode said the road project had been split into three segments and awarded to Pecular Ultimate Concerns, Mzee Global Resources, and A’skorg Integrated Service Limited, noting that contractors would be mobilised before the end of the month.
“The 55.6km project has been divided into three and awarded to three contractors. They will be mobilised this month, and work will commence immediately,” he said.
He added that the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke had intensified infrastructure development across Iwo, including the construction of the town’s first dual carriageway and multiple internal roads within two years.
According to him, the ongoing 3.6km dual carriageway project, which runs from Odo-Ori market through Oja-Oba to the Post Office, is currently at about 50 per cent completion.
He explained that drainage works had been completed, while construction of walkways and the median was ongoing. He also noted that the second phase of the project, extending from the Post Office to Adeeke along the Iwo–Ibadan road, is yet to commence.
Ojebode further listed completed internal roads in Iwo to include Ansarudeen–Puti, Feesu Agbowo, Post Office–Oke-Ifa, Army Junction–Jagun Ode, and Junction Osogbo–Oke-Ola roads.
Meanwhile, transport union leaders in the town commended the state government’s infrastructure efforts, describing the projects as unprecedented.
Speaking on behalf of the groups, Kamoru Asafa said residents were satisfied with the pace of development and expressed optimism that ongoing projects would be completed.
Also, Lai Olurode, Chairman of the Iwo Board of Trustees, described the dual carriageway project as a landmark development, noting that it was the first of its kind in the town.
He said, “This is a significant intervention in road infrastructure. From what we have seen, the project represents a major step forward for Iwo, and we believe subsequent phases will be completed.”
