Adeleke Inaugurates Enlarged Committee to Resolve Ifon-Ilobu Boundary Crisis

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has inaugurated an enlarged land crisis resolution committee to address the prolonged boundary dispute between the communities of Ifon and Ilobu, with Erin-Osun also included in the resolution process.

Speaking at the inauguration, Adeleke expressed sadness over the persistent conflict, noting that previous efforts to resolve the feud had failed. “It is with a heavy heart that I address you all today on the Ifon-Ilobu crisis. Peace is not just the absence of conflicts but the state of actively working together for progress and development,” he said.

The governor highlighted the government’s commitment to preventing further escalation, stating that the new initiative includes external leaders to mediate and find a lasting solution to the crisis. Adeleke warned against politicizing the conflict, emphasizing that the government would not tolerate using communal struggles as a tool for political agendas.

The newly inaugurated committee includes 25 representatives from each of the affected communities and 25 members representing the state government.

The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, and a retired judge, Justice Moshood Adekunle Adeigbe, will serve as Chairman and Co-Chairman, respectively. Four other traditional rulers and selected individuals appointed by the government will also serve on the committee.

The governor tasked the committee with submitting its findings within two weeks, urging members to bring their expertise to bear on the assignment. “Peace is essential in any society for social harmony, security, and economic stability,” Adeleke stressed.

The inauguration marks a renewed effort by the state government to end the recurring disputes and foster lasting peace among the communities.
