The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has urged Nigerians to seek God’s forgiveness and abandon idol worship, emphasizing that only God deserves worship. Oba Akanbi stated that the solution to Nigeria’s current economic challenges lies in turning to God and asking for divine guidance.
Speaking at the fourth annual “Odun Olodumare” celebration held at his palace in Iwo, Oba Akanbi said the economic hardship calls for a collective return to God for forgiveness and wisdom to overcome the country’s struggles. “When things are going like this, we should take everybody back to God,” he said, adding that Nigerians should seek forgiveness for any past ingratitude to God.
The Oluwo noted that Nigeria’s mineral resources are sufficient to address its needs if the nation seeks God’s wisdom. He also clarified that the economic challenges are not unique to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, pointing out that past administrations, from Shehu Shagari to recent leaders, have faced economic hardship.
Highlighting the importance of the “Odun Olodumare” celebration, Oba Akanbi explained that the event is dedicated to worshiping the one true God, uniting both Muslims and Christians in a tradition devoid of deity worship.
Prince Kehinde Oloke, Special Adviser to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on traditional matters, commended the Oluwo’s efforts, describing the “Odun Olodumare” celebration as a unique, non-theological event central to Yoruba heritage. He emphasized that Olodumare represents unity across all Yoruba-speaking people, regardless of religious background, making the festival significant to all.
