Pensioners in Osun State have begun to experience relief as the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration includes them in the state’s Health Insurance Scheme.
In a statement released by Dr. Adeolu Amos Adisa, the Senior Medical Officer in charge of General Hospital Ijebu-Jesa, praised the initiative introduced by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, noting its positive impact on the health and well-being of retirees.
The scheme, which exempts pensioners from the standard 10% contribution, has allowed many elderly residents to receive regular medical care without fear of incurring expenses they cannot afford.
According to the statement, before the implementation of the health insurance scheme, numerous pensioners in Osun State faced challenges in accessing healthcare, often having to forgo essential treatments for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and stroke due to financial constraints.
Co emphasised that this initiative has provided a lifeline for retirees, enabling them to prioritise their health and receive timely treatment.
“The Adeleke administration has ensured that our senior citizens can access medical care without the fear of incurring expenses they cannot afford,” Dr. Adisa stated.
He added that there has been a noticeable increase in pensioners seeking regular medical checkups, resulting in significant improvements in their overall health and quality of life.
The scheme has also provided relief to families who previously had to bear the cost of healthcare for their elderly relatives. Dr. Adisa commended Governor Adeleke for this compassionate policy, describing it as a sustainable approach to improving healthcare access for vulnerable groups and urging other states to adopt similar measures.
