- As Nigeria marks its 64th Independence Anniversary, the Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development has urged Nigerians to hold their leaders accountable and strive for greater youth inclusion in governance and public policy reforms.In a statement released and signed by Sodiq Yusuf, Senior Communications Officer today, Jare Tiamiyu, Executive Director of the Insight Initiative, emphasised the necessity for young people to demand a better deal from the nation’s leaders through advocacy aimed at strengthening democracy and increasing awareness of governmental processes.“The time has come for young people to take charge and insist on a government that reflects their aspirations and needs,” Tiamiyu stated. He highlighted the organisation’s projects over the past year, including the OsunOpenLG Project and initiatives to engage youth in electoral reforms, which have significantly raised the electorate’s awareness and involvement in governance.
Tiamiyu’s statement conveyed a sense of urgency regarding Nigeria’s current socio-economic challenges, stating, “Our nation stands at the threshold of sustainable development amidst the raging hunger, huge unemployment, bad governance, and serious leadership inefficiency. We must at this juncture seek initiatives and aim to address these anomalies by being at the forefront of change.”
He noted that the Insight Initiative has been dedicated to providing platforms for youth awareness and participation, aiming to reduce the information gap surrounding how resources are utilised for national development. “We are committed to championing the cause for change and good governance,” he added.
The Executive Director also called for collaboration among all stakeholders, including youth organisations, community leaders, traditional rulers, and religious bodies, stating, “We cannot do it alone. The support of all stakeholders is essential in advancing this pursuit. Together, we can create a better country for ourselves and future generations by demanding accountability from our leaders.”
Tiamiyu extended warm wishes to Nigerians both at home and abroad, saying, “May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Happy 64th Independence Anniversary.”
